What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “As a culinary and medicinal herb farmer, well-being is at the root of my practice. I believe that everybody deserves to feel safe and secure so that they can thrive together like a healthy ecosystem. To me, self care looks like making sure that our chicken flock is safely housed and fed so that we can continue to have fresh eggs to feed our queer community. It looks like repairing the solar system that powers our apothecary in a converted school bus. It looks like taking care of the new babies, aging parents and struggling friends while planting seeds for seasons to come.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I will use this award to build trust in my community. The Mobile Moon Co-op school bus/apothecary is currently undergoing transitions. We aim to upgrade our solar system so that we can more readily heat and cool the space and use it as a venue for herbal consultations, massages, and land-based trainings.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “I feel the need to create more spaces for my queer/trans community. If we can make safe spaces for people to learn, heal and grow together, then I will feel more taken care of and well. Being able to keep the farm active all four seasons would help considerably.”
