RECIPIENTS

Gonzalo Garcia Reyes of Lomita Farm

The 150th Real Farmer Care recipient is Gonzalo Garcia Reyes of Lomita Farm @lomitafarmpdx in Gresham, OR. Gonzalo writes, “My name is Gonzalo(he/him), I'm 25 years old, and I created Lomita Farm, located in Gresham, OR. Lomita translates to “Little Hill” in Spanish and is my way of paying tribute to a piece of land that my Indigenous Zapotec family has stewarded, farmed, and called home in Oaxaca, Mexico for generations. I started Lomita Farm in 2021 out of a desire to feed my community and to also reclaim my relationship to agriculture as an Indigenous person. Since the beginning I have been intentional about making my food accessible to communities that have been underserved and neglected.

This work is impossible to do on my own, which is why I strategically partner with existing community organizations to grow and distribute CSA shares with culturally significant foods to primarily latinx and/or low income families, many of whom are Immigrants. It brings me lots of joy to be able to grow my Indigenous foods and to be able to share that with my family and community. It's a type of self care in a way. You can support my work by sharing funds on Venmo @ Gonzalo-GarciaReyes”
