The 359th recipient is Daphne Kingsley of Light Root Community Farm @lightroot.farm in Boulder, CO. Daphne writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Stewarding the land and the animals and producing nourishing food for our community is good work. I appreciate the physicality, the daily and seasonal rhythm, and working in nature, this all supports my wellbeing. Farming is also challenging and demanding, and after a long season it has stretched my capacity physically, mentally and emotionally. I embrace the winter months as a time to consciously slow down, make time for rest that is not available in the long summer season, and replenish my system in ways I don’t have time or means for in the busy months. After many years of farming I have learned that this seasonal rest is essential in the longevity of my farming path. Creating healthy farms also means supporting healthy Farmers! This means making time for family and relationships, activities off the farm that I enjoy, reading and drinking warm tea, and taking care of my body. It’s important to honor these personal needs so that I can continue farming each season with love and inspiration.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I would use the award to take a day trip to a nearby mountain hot spring resort to soak and relax and heal my body after a long farming season!”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Taking care of our physical bodies — rest, stretching, yoga, massage. Taking care of mental and emotional wellbeing by spending time with family, friends, or in community.”
